About the breed
German pinscher
Height: 45-
Weight: 15-
Country of the origin: Germany
General features
Very graceful, lively and active dog of medium size and quadratic constitution, of mighty sinews and muscles, with similar anatomic features and characteristic qualities as schnauzer. Pinscher has got much in common with sleuthhound, which has been bred from pinscher.
Pinscher is bold in every situation, curious and attentive. Despite his friendly nature, he is an excellent watchdog. He is absolutely devoted to his family, but can be harsh and distrustful of strangers. Firm hand and training of perfect obedience are necessary to control his specific temperament. This is however an easily realizable condition, as he is naturally intelligent and very quick to learn.
Short hair and low demands on food enable to keep the dog indoors. He is no solitaire and needs to be in permanent contact with his family.
Plaincolour: deer-red, red-brown up to dark red-brown. Tinted black: shiny black hair with red or brown points.
According to the novel of the German standard from 2002, cropping dog's tail and ears is disciplinable! Ears have to be left natural - cropping is illegal. In our country, a dog born after 1993 having cropped ears is disqualified!
German pinscher is apt for a sporting family. With the proper training, he can be a good family pet, watchdog, as well as agility. He is frequently used for defence.
